The movie James Cameron's Avatar was released in 2009 and it has won numerous awards including 3 Academy Awards. The movie was an adaptation of a short story written by Frank Borman and Jim and George Lucas and then into a screenplay that James Cameron wrote. It is about Jake Sully, a young marine who goes to his home on Earth while stationed on an exo-station in the moon Pandora after he is injured while serving in Iraq. There he befriends Navi (an alien), plays several games such as surf, bird, limbo, kiss etc with her language translator technology to find her people again. Later in the movie, he is sent through a portal to Pandora where he is transferred into his avatar body. He then proceeds to help the Na'vi tribe fight off the humans who are trying to steal their land and resources located there. It was released in over sixty countries worldwide and grossed $2.7 billion at the global box office. The film was nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director for James Cameron, winning three for Best Art Direction (Robert Stromberg), Cinematography (Mauro Fiore) and Visual Effects (John Knoll, Joe Letteri, Scott Farrar). The film also spawned two sequels in which Jake is sent back to Earth to help out the native people there. Avatar: The Book of Souls is a novel written by John Logan and published by Harper Entertainment in April 2015. The book was released on April 30, 2015 and it follows Jake Sully's story after he (and his avatar) return to the moon Pandora. The original script was written by Jim and George Lucas, when James Cameron started making the movie in 1997 his script did not have any action sequences or flying machines. He then rewrote the entire movie which included all these things into his movie. In creating the Avatar, James Cameron raised a number of technical questions in order to create a believable technological world in which the Na'vi would live in. He wanted a language that sounded authentic and in process he created a database of words in eleven different languages, including the Na'vi language written in the fictional alphabet known as "Inuit". In addition to the names of the Na'vi characters being written from right to left, they also have their language's numbers from right to left. James Cameron has been quoted saying at several points throughout his films that "I was always trying to find an allegory or metaphor" for life itself. This is seen in the film through the theme of the Na'vi as well as many other characters such as Gilgamesh. The story of "The Odyssey" is also referenced throughout the movies as well as an ancient text known as "Atlantis: The Lost Empire" and so on. James Cameron has said that he wanted to create a world that was similar to a very early form of human life where it's a jungle, a primordial soup. It has been called a place where man will never be able to control everything there – where there was no cleanliness – you're going to have parasites and viruses – jungles, but one would think how primitive life forms could live in this environment. cfa1e77820
